Announcing 31 Days of Femininity Series

I decided to take a challenge I read about at The Nester (one of my favorite decorating blogs) and join in the 31 days series that she is hosting. The rules are to pick a topic of your choice, and then blog about it for 31 days in October. This will be a stretch for me to do that, but I'm excited about my topic so I think it will all come together!

Here is the outline for the next month:

Week One

Scriptural case for femininity. Why are we to be feminine, what are some examples in scripture of feminine women?

Week Two

Being feminine towards your husband.

Week Three

Being feminine towards your children.

Week Four

Being feminine outside of the home.

I hope you will come back October first and join me for this series!

Remember you can always follow The Modest Mom Blog on Facebook here for daily updates, or subscribe here for feed updates.

Made On Diaper Rash Cream Giveaway!

Sadly, we have needed diaper rash cream more times that I care to count over the years. It seems as soon as our children hit a year old, keeping them in cloth is almost impossible because of the terrible rashes they develop.

I have tried several different creams over the years, the all natural expensive ones, to a medicated cream. Some worked better than others, but nothing worked like I wanted it to. The creams were runny for one thing, and never stayed just where I wanted it to. I didn't see healing results very quickly. But I'm excited to discover a diaper rash cream that I will be using from now on, as I love how well it works and the texture!

Made On Skin Care Products created a diaper rash cream using three simple ingredients, Coconut oil (main ingredient),  Zinc Oxide ( a natural earth mineral that is common in most creams), and Beeswax (to thicken it). I knew that coconut oil was very good for diaper rash creams and I had tried it several times. I couldn't get past how messy it was to apply and I never saw the same results that I have seen with this cream.

Olivia just happened to have a diaper rash when I received the cream in the mail, something that she has not had in a long time. She has been in disposables, and since she developed the rash in disposables I knew it would be hard to get rid of. I tried the ultimate test on the cream, and put her back in cloth for most days. That's another thing I love about the cream, it can be used on cloth diapers with no liners! Her rash did not go away using the cloth and cream together, but it did not get worse which is a huge difference. Finally over the weekend I put her in disposable diapers only, and combined with using the cream it is almost gone.

This cream will actually adhere to the spots that you need it to, and stay there! That is what really impressed me about the cream.

Here are some testimonials on the cream:

Johanna in PA (a cloth diaper user): ...it soothed his irritation and prevented it from appearing over the next few days despite the same fruit-intense diet!  It glides over the skin smoothly exactly where you want it!
Joan in MD:
The rash cream is so smooth and rubs right into our skin. My husband is using it on a rash he's had for a couple weeks. He likes the way it feels. Since the rash cream is so light and mild I tried it on my face. I have sensitive skin due to rosacea. It absorbed right into my skin and did not leave a white oil slick. I like that!
Kristin in WA (a cloth diaper user):
I love this stuff!  I love that I can just put it on and not worry about using a paper liner (defeats the purpose of using cloth!) when I need some rash cream.  Now that it's been awhile, I know for sure that the cream does not affect the diapers.  It's really streamlining my cloth diapering process. Yea!
Thanks for making this great product.
I'm excited that one of my readers will get a chance to try this cream! Made On Skin care Products has agreed to giveaway the full size container of diaper rash cream to one of you! To enter, use the form below. You don't have to do all the entries to enter, just pick the ones you want to do. Of course the more you enter, the better chance you have of winning!

Teaching Modesty To Our Daughters

As mothers, we have an awesome and exciting responsibility to teach our daughters what being a lady is all about. The best way we can teach them is to show them what it looks like by living it in our own lives.
One thing I am working on passing on to my young daughters is how to look like a lady. I want to show my daughters the attitude of modesty by the spirit I carry and by what I wear.
I was blessed to have a mother who taught me from a young age how to conduct myself as a lady. She saw the importance of raising her daughters to look feminine and modest. Having gone through experiences in life she regretted, she didn’t want us susceptible to the crude comments and gawks and stares of young men visually enjoying a young lady displaying her body for all to see.

Fall Into Reading 2011 Booklist

I came across the Fall Into Reading program a few days ago, and was delighted to learn that it hadn't started yet. I really want to be reading more books, so I started trying to compile a book list. This is hard for me to do, as I love to go to the library and just start browsing for good books (mainly non fiction). I know there will be some pregnancy books thrown in the mix, and other books I find along the way, but here is a compiled list of books I would like to read this fall.

Chasing Daylight  by Eugene O'Kelly (I imagine this book will be read with tears remembering all the things we did with my mom leading up to her death).

Counterfeit Gods by Timothy Keller

Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother  by Amy Chua (I've heard so much about this book I'm curious to read it, not to gain a model of parenting from her, like I said I'm just curious).

A Mom Just Like You by Vickie Farris and Jayme Farris Metzgar

Simplify Your Space (I need this one!)

Books to read out loud to the Children

In November  by Cynthia Rylant

Stories of the Pilgrims by Margaret B. Pumphrey (Christian Liberty Press, this is a family tradition now that my husband starts reading this book aloud in October leading up to Thanksgiving. Our boys just love it!).

Money In The Chimney by Eleanora H. Stooke (Lamplighter collection book that we just started as a family read a loud).

Helen's Temper And It's Consequences by Mrs. George Gladstone (Another Lamplighter Book, they are so good! We've read this one before but I feel it's time to pull it out and read it again to my children).

Do you have any books you are working on? I'd love to hear what is on your booklist!

Apple Picking Day!

We were blessed to hear of an orchard near us where we could go to pick apples- for free! My sister met me there to pick. As soon as I got there, I told her I felt for the first time in my life that I had arrived at Prince Edward Islands! There were probably five acres of apple trees, and it was so peaceful and beautiful. I can only imagine what it looks like in the spring when all the trees are blossoming!

Walking in the orchard with Aunt Jennifer.

Picking apples with her puppy dog!

All four children want to climb on ladders and pick!

George Washington found an apple! Oh wait, that's Israel. :) He LOVES to dress up as George Washington!

I'm carefully up on a ladder picking apples. The shadows of light in the orchard made it hard to get good pictures.

I got some apples! The best ones are up high. :)

Mama with her youngest baby, for just a few more months until the next baby comes!

Olivia watching her brothers and sister run, romp, and pick!

"If I can just climb a little bit higher I can get that apple!"

Israel showing his apples he picked, with a goofy look on his face!

I was planning on having pictures of us making applesauce, but my camera ran out of batteries after this. We went to my mother in law's house and spent the afternoon peeling apples. Her dad owns an antique apple peeler that works so much better than any peeler you can buy today! So we hook it up and crank away. This year my children were all eager to crank the handle and they were a big help!

We only made a dent in the apples, so we have a few more days to go. My mother in law is most gracious and always finishes up the canning of the applesauce while I drag myself home, exhausted at the end of the day. I'm grateful for her experience in canning, as she grew up alongside her mother canning. It will be so wonderful to have yummy homemade applesauce this winter!

A darling Shabby Chic Find!

Can I share my excitement with you all? I just ordered these sweet vintage shabby chic looking tea cups that are actually measuring cups! I fell in love with them as soon as I saw them, and used some store credit I had to get them. I'm going to display them in my kitchen, and yes, possibly use them! :)

These little things make being a homemaker so much fun!

If you want to grab your own set, click here and look under Antique Charm Home Decor.

But shhh!! Don't share my secret that these aren't really vintage. ;)

Charlie Banana Cloth Diapers, Feminine Pads, & American Girl Dolls!

Today on Zulily they have the Charlie Banana cloth diapers on sale. I didn't think the sale was super great, but if you were needing cloth diapers the bundle pack was a good deal. I did pick up the pink bubblegum diaper tote to put in my diaper bag as I didn't have one. We are giving cloth diapers a try again right now. :)

They also have feminine cloth pads on sale, which I've always wanted to try. Those were a good price.

And finally, if you have a little girl that loves American Girl dolls, they have the mini American Girls Dolls on sale for $14.93 shipped on Amazon right now. The price can change at any minute, but that is a great price for the mini dolls. American Girl items seem to rarely go on sale. They also have the two latest historical mini dolls on sale. (Yes, can you tell I like American Girl dolls? They've changed a lot since I was a little girl, but I still have my historical dolls and love them!).

True Christian Motherhood Ebook Giveaway!

I've been waiting for this gem to be released! "True Christian Motherhood" is an ebook written by Mrs. June Fuentes. I have read her blog for quite a while now, and been inspired by her writings. I've also had the privilege to speak with her on the phone when I did a blog consultation with her once, and she is quite sweet!

If you are like me, you need encouragement to stay the course in mothering. The days can be rewarding, but are also long and tiring. This book is an easy read, but filled with nuggets of wonderful truth.

I loved this quote found in the book:

"I cannot forget my mother. She is my bridge. When I needed to get across, she steadied herself long enough for me to run across safely." Anonymous

That sums up what motherhood is. We are the anchor in our children's lives, pointing them to the true anchor, our Lord. Being a Christian mother is hard work. This book will inspire you to press on, and stay true to the course. If you are not sure what being a Christian mother really should look like, you will be given a vision in this book as she clearly lays it out for you.

I was confident enough in the writing of Mrs. June Fuentes, that The Modest Mom sponsored this ebook, along with Doorpost!

You can purchase the ebook here, or find it for your Kindle on Amazon.

Fall Wardrobe Ideas!

I like to pin complete outfit sets on Pinterest as it gives me ideas. I normally don't like everything in the outfit, but these are some of my favorites for fall!

*Fall is here* 4 damzel21;;NEW CONTEST

I could never wear high heels like that, I'd fall over! But I think the skirt and top are so cute!

Yellow/Black/Grey Mix

I *love* this outfit! If I was making it I would lengthen the dress. I prefer the black sweater and the black purse.

Work Outfit

I would trade the jeans out for the Rainbow Denim Skirt instead, and close the shoes instead of making the ends open. I'm picky I know. :) But who doesn't love the flower that you could pin on the sweater, and those cute earrings to complete the outfit? I love fall time, it makes modesty easier since you can layer and look adorable!

I don't have a link for where this came from, but I would wear this all the time if I had it! Put a cute top under it, and pair it with a nice skirt and it would be beautiful!

It's fun to dream!

What is your favorite outfit?

25 Pregnancy Test Strips for just $5.23!

When I'm not pregnant I go through a great deal of pregnancy tests! I could never afford to test so much if I bought the expensive tests from the store. I always buy pregnancy test strips online, and save a lot of money doing that.

Right now Amazon has a 25 count of pregnancy test strips for just $5.23, making each test .21 cents each! They normally are $11.43, so grab this deal if you need some tests! Like anything on Amazon, prices change constantly so who knows how long this deal will last.
