Frumpy Or Fabulous...An Update On Day One.

To read the original post go here.

I thought I would give a quick update on how my day went yesterday. I will admit to waking up grumpy and exhausted, as I was awake past midnight trying to eat enough food to satisfy this little baby in my tummy who makes me ravenously hungry! My day was filled with errands, a supposed midwife apt. that got canceled, and a l-o-n-g drive to pick up a craigslist deal. So my husband was home before I was last night.

Obviously since I was out running errands I was already dressed nicely. While I was at the health food store, I made sure to stop and pick up some tinted chap stick. I am all out of any sort of lip stick, or lip gloss, thanks to my little girl getting into my lip stick. :) I looked through all the colors and ended up getting a Burt's Bee Lip Shimmer.

I really want to try the new Burt's Bee Tinted Lip Gloss as I read some ladies online writing how much they liked it. My health food store didn't carry it though, and the lip shimmer was a few dollars cheaper so I went with that for now. :)
Do you like to wear lip gloss, chap stick, or lip stick everyday? I'd love to hear what you prefer!

I wear my own homemade lip balm every day (or Burt's Bees Lip Balm -peppermint- if I can't get around to making some)! I've never been into lipstick or even tinted lip gloss - never could stand the way it felt - all waxy and yucky. But the peppermint is a great pick-me-up when I'm tired!

I used to wear lipstick pretty often, but I decided to ask my husband if he liked it. He said that he was OK with it. I asked him to tell me more and we had a really nice talk where he shared that he thought my lips were pretty without a lot of lipstick on them. A light amount of a natural color he was more happy with if I wanted to wear something. I love your idea of tinted lip balm. That sounds like a good idea! I think I may try that. I never really thought about it till I listened to him...it doesn't sound very fun to kiss lipstick. lol So glad that I asked him. :D

He said as long as its natural looking...but then I mentioned the lip balm to him this morning after reading here and his eyes lit up. He liked that idea. You are the best, Caroline! Thanks for the idea!

Mary Joy,

I'm glad the idea helped you! I personally don't care how lip stick feels, and my husband doesn't care if I wear it, so I've been thrilled to discover tinted lip balms! I hope you find a color you like. At the health food store I was at they had sample to try of all the different colors, which was really helpful.

I love Alba's Blaze Terra Tints. It's a mineral tinted lip balm. Looks like lip stick without drying out my lips.

Thank you so much for these posts! I'm sad to say that since baby #4 arrived in March, I've been wearing sweats and a tee shirt (yes, all the time). My husband encouraged me last week to spend some money I made at a yard sale on new clothes for me, and I bought 3 dresses and a new cardigan! This post is exactly what I needed at just the right time. Yesterday (though I was tempted to put on my sweats) I made sure that I was wearing a presentable outfit and had makeup on when my husband came home. I love that when I take the time to take care of not only the children, but myself as well, my husband seems to get more energy as well! He got a project done last night that I had been asking him to do for several weeks :)

I never liked the way lip stick looked on me however, I did wear lip gloss during my younger years. I do not wear anything, but want my lips to look nice so, when I notice they are starting to get dry I whip out my Carmex, I love this stuff.

Little secret my husband and I both use it and enjoy sharing it with one another. You may consider picking some up.

I love the Korres lip butters. They are a little more expensive than I normally like to spend but I always ask for those things as gifts. The cap colors look a bit bold but they go on sheer so it really looks nice. Plus they leave my lips looking and feeling great.

I really like chapstick and lip gloss. Flavored, unflavored, colored or not. I've also found that I really like Avon lipstick. It goes on nice and smooth (over chapstick of course!) and I can't even feel it. It's very light. Unfortunately, Brian doesn't like to kiss me when I have anything on my lips! I can understand the lipstick, but he doesn't even like chapstick!! Every night, I give him a kiss goodnight and THEN apply chapstick. :)

Thank you for these posts. I think I've been so obsessive about getting my house presentable for my husband that I've neglected myself. I made a pledge a while back (after the first trimester of pregnancy) that I was going to try not to be in p.j.'s anymore when he got home and I've stuck to that even now that I'm in my third trimester. But often, my hair is in a ponytail and you can tell by my eyes that I'm ready to go back to bed.

I know though that our husbands are exposed to beautiful women every day in the workplace, on the street, on billboards...everywhere! So I do want to try to be at least lovely if not beautiful or radiant when he arrives home to me.

My husband prefers me not to wear any makeup...it's funny, but many women I know have had this conversation with their husbands and they prefer no makeup as well! It's amazing how duped we have all been into thinking that we must be made up to look pretty...lol. I'm sure some men prefer other things, but it's great to encourage women to really ask them and get more comfortable with going "bare". I do wear chapstick b/c I have dry lips, but take it off before hubby gets home as he doesn't like how it feels.

I don't like the look of lipstick on me, so I usually just wear tinted chapstick. And as for make-up, I only wear a mascara and a little bit of eyeliner. My hubby says that my barn doesn't need any paint. :)

i love chapstick brand mint chapstick in the green tube (or their cherry-same as my dad!) or burt's bees original in the flat round pot. i love mint lip balms. i used to wear a lot of gloss in high school and college, but not so much anymore. i never was much of a lipstick wearer, though i wish i was as i find it good for special occasions.

my hubby prefers minimal makeup, we've had discussions (back when we were dating) about the shimmery or glittery eye shadows and he just cannot stand them. he'd rather i wear just mascara and lip balm, maybe eye liner in black or brown to spice it up, hah! i really have no need/want to wear a lot of makeup like i did when i was younger and i'd rather please him than myself! :)

i love this challenge and i'm happy to accept! :)

My husband prefers me without makeup, which is fine by me. I've got such sensitive skin that everything causes me to break out except Bare Esscentuals, that's just too expensive for me to use regularly.

I love Burt's Bees! I tried the lip shimmers, but didn't like them. The color would slide around on my lips if I rubbed them together. It looked like I didn't know how to apply , it was always smeary. The natural color of my lips is dark pink, so if I do wear any color it has to be on the mauve or berry spectrum or it looks strange.

I did manage to put on clean clothes and brush my hair today. Sadly, it's a major feat for me. O.o

I LOVE Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer, I have it in two or three shades. I love lip gloss and lipstick, but my husband hates to kiss lipstick or a very glossy gloss, so I tend to use my Burt's Bees lip shimmers, BareEscentuals Lip Buzz (coffee scented lip balm along the lines of chapstick), or Rosebud salve (it comes in a little metal pot and lasts forever, I have it in the regular rose scent and peppermint also). Those have all been hubby approved, and are all colorless except for the lip shimmers, they just give moisture and a tiny bit of shine, which makes both my husband and I happy! :)

For everyday I wear a nice Mary Kay lipstick called Pink Shimmer. I picked it because it's only a shade or two darker than my natural lip color. It's very creamy and light and my husband thinks it's "just right." It takes about 5 seconds to put on - I never have fooled with lip liner. Luckily, whenever I run out, it's easy to find this lipstick on Ebay for just a few bucks.

For special occasions, like a date night, I will wear lip gloss with some "sparkle" to it, also in a very light/natural shade. Fun and pretty!

Oh, and of course by the time dinner is over whatever I'm wearing on my lips is gone for good and it's time for a break. LOL

I like to use lanolin for lip gloss. I also use a stay put lipstick under it when I am going somewhere.

Lip balm all the time! It keeps my lips soft and moisturized, and my husband loves it! He prefers me w/no make-up, which makes me glad. I thought I would have a difficult time w/no make up, but it's been a few months now (I think) and I love it!

I tend to wear lip stick and mascara every day. The lipstick I wear is a natural color, and it is a high quality brand that feels nice as it goes on (not sure what it is actually, my mom keeps me supplied in make-up as birthday/Christmas gifts).

My husband likes a natural look. I've been blessed by my mom a couple of times to have my make-up done a couple of times. Both times the lady listened to my request for a "natural" look. I don't use it all very often, but it does feel good to look a little nicer without looking "made-up".

I wish someone would give me clues as to what I'm doing wrong with mascara. I can't stand to wear it, I feel like it's all heavy feeling on me. And then to take it off every night is an extra step, right? I like how it can look on ladies though. I'm with all of you who said your husband likes it to look natural. That is very much my husband as well! He doest't mind me wearing makeup, but if I get it on to heavy he will be quick to say something. :)

I recently had my top teeth removed due to major dental problems and have become addicted to chapstick. I know my hubby dislikes lipstick because it taste bad to him, so flavored balm is a good thing! :)

How fun!

I also like the Burt's Bees tinted lip gloss. The peppermint is so nice and cool. I usually wear regular Burt's Bees or other all-natural lip balms because I don't like the feel of other brands. The others are too waxy for me and don't moisturize the way I need.

Nice lip balm...my one weakness :-)

I have a recipe for Rosy Rose lip balm--a hint of color, all natural ingredients and it smells divine! Come and see, if you'd like.

For mascara, a youth leader kindly taught us a bit about it when I was a teen. She showed us how to wipe the wand on a tissue to remove the excess. Then, beginning at the base of the lash, you wiggle the wand back and forth to coat the lashes evenly. Then touch up the ends of the lashes to make sure they are defined. I like one coat, other do two or three. That technique helped cut down on the clumps for me and is not too heavy, without having to spend $$$ on expensive stuff.

One tip my Mom gave was to brush on plain Vaseline with an eyelash brush to separate and define the lashes without the heaviness. There is also clear mascara at some stores, which does the same things. I suppose it does take some getting used to, the feel of make-up, if one is not as used to it. Eyeshadow is always nice, too, without feeling glumpy.

Hope this helps :-)

I wear eyeliner, mascara and some kind of color on my lips everyday. The rest is natural. I like lipsticks pretty well, I use those when I am going to church or shopping. I like tinted lip gloss, especially in summer. I wear something on my lips at all times, even if it's vaseline or chapstick.

Caroline I'm not quite sure about mascara, but I'm thinking that like lipstick the brand may make a difference? In the past my mom has seen some sort of review on mascaras and picks up the one that rated the best, she gets me a new tube twice a year (summer and Christmas, it can go bad and get germs in it, you don't want that by your eyes so replace twice a year!). She used to use the Cover Girl stuff (comes in a BRIGHT green and pink tube), now its the L'Oreal Voluminous Naturale. I liked both, but I think I prefer the Cover Girl one.

To put it on I was taught to start at the base of my lashes and as I slowly move the brush upwards also move it from side to side. This keeps it from going on lumpy and helps to separate the lashes. It can take some time to get the hang of it, but I like how it helps accent my eyes (I think it makes a big difference in how I look). As far as taking it off, I just use a wet washcloth to wipe it off.

Hello Caroline! I have been following your blog for a good while now...Just wanted to share with you (and all the rest of you ladies) that on July 11 around 7:00ish...my Husband and I found out that we are expecting! Whoohoo! Our first one we lost due to a miscarriage back in Oct. of 09. We are exciting about this pregnancy, and this fresh new start! (: We are just praising God for His faithfulness! It is truly a blessing to be a mom to be to a cute little embryo (I'll be 8 weeks in a few days)...(: lol. We are very excited! Anyway! Thanks for this blog and thanks for letting me share! Now, to answer your question...this might seem silly, but...I have decided not to wear any makeup until my 2 trimester...because I'm afraid that the chemicals in my makeup (which is old, I just don't want to go out and spend money on new makeup every month or year)...so I have just kept the lip gloss and all the other makeup I have for YEARS. Idk..call me silly I guess haha..but something just doesn't feel right to me about applying very old makeup when I'm expecting...

Blessings,

-Tina

I will add my two cents on the lip gloss. I love it. Of all my nine daughters I think they all use it.

Another tip for mascara application. A friend of mine taught me to pull the wand almost all the way out, leaving just the brush in the tube and then bend slightly so that you have a 30 to 45 degree angle (where the wire of the brush meets the plastic of the wand, and in case you are wondering, I have done this for years and haven't broken a wand yet, knock on wood...), it helps a bit when working around your nose and getting closer to the lash line. Admittedly, it takes a bit of getting used to, but once you do, you'll always bend your wands :)

Burt's Bees tinted lip balm is the best. Not greasy, makes your lips really soft and adds just a hint of color.

I do try to wear a little lipstick each day:)
My daughter's friend makes her own lip balms with vaseline and various items to add color or flavor...she tells me that cocoa works well...or some "mushed up" lipstick from tubes that are at their end and on the way to being discarded. I am wanting to experiment in making these things and would love to hear advice or tips from others on the topic!
