Your children need you, not things!

Don't get so caught up in providing the absolute best for your children, whether that is in the form of the best toys, house, clothes, or yes, even the best home school books that you loose sight of what is important.

Your children need you.

They don't have to have name brand clothes to keep them happy.

They don't require a brand new top of the line mini van to ride to the library in.

They don't even need a complete home school curriculum that is "said" to be the best of the best, and costs the same as several house payments.

Your daughters will be just fine wearing simple jumpers because you don't have the time or money to make or buy them dresses that look like April Cornell.

They will not be fine if you constantly push them aside for your latest project, or because you are weary of them. Children are loud, exhausting and demanding at times, but before you know it they will be grown up. And you will miss the noise. And the mess. And the constant work.

My husband and I enjoy our babies even more than when we had our first child. We have seen how fast they grow, and realize that life as parents is but a fleeting moment. Seasons come and go, and we will have to sit back and spend a long season just observing our grandchildren grow up, and embrace a new time in life. Yes, at 28 years old I think of being a grandparent. Why? Because it seems like I just blinked and I was holding my newborn son in my arms....and now he is almost eight years old.

Embrace your children. Smother them with hugs and kisses. Start each day new and fresh. Let go of the past mistakes and forgive yourself of the bad parenting day you had yesterday. Enjoy this beautiful fall weather and go to the park, or take a walk with your children and spend time with them.

Well said!!! and you are right...in the blink of an eye they are grown and gone!!! My two that are out of the house have thanked us more than once for the time we invested in them, they have never complained about not having enough stuff (well except for maybe not getting them that tire swing...).

I would add activities to that: "Your Children Need You, Not Things or Activities"

It breaks my heart when I see families running all over the place to participate in activities at the expense of relationships with one another.

my mom passed away this past week at the age of 82, and this weekend we will have a celebration of life. Remembering and sharing are the most special gift she gave to us. We rejoice in her life and thank her for being our mother.
