She Wears Skirts-A peek into The Modest Mom's Closet
Today I did a vlog where I show you my own closet! My husband had to work late, so I did it myself, which is why it isn't perfect. :) Hopefully this will give some of you that are just starting out a better idea of what a closet looks like that is filled with only skirts and dresses.
Over at Raising Arrows today I wrote a post called "Where Do I Start" which you might find helpful to read! I include a basic list of what you might want in your own closet.

Thanks for sharing. That was fun! I was waiting to see what you would come up with. Did a great job! I'm glad you clarified how long you have been wearing skirts/dresses so ladies don't get too overwhelmed thinking they need a full closet full. No, you don't have to start out with that many clothes! I have way too many in my closet, every time I start purging I get to share with my lil sister, and friends!
How fun! Love your new eyelet top!
@Jennifer, I love it when you purge your closet! ;) I always walk away with new clothes. lol.
Caroline, I loved this! What fun!
It would be nice to have a linky at the end of this series - I'd love to peek into the closets of other skirt mamas as well. I'd try to participate!

I do plan on doing some link ups along the way in the series. Great idea!
So fun to see you on video!!! :-)
Oh you are adorable! I am glad to see what you have put together. I am wearing skirts nearly all the time now (new to this within the last year). However, I do keep some jeans...I will NOT work in the garden with a skirt or do the outdoor chores in a skirt...I am terrified that a snake or other creepy crawlie will get where it is not supposed to be. :)
I agree. I wear only skirts, and go to a church where all the women wear skirts. It would be nice to do various women's videos of their closets that wear skirts and see what different people wear. I didn't always wear skirts and had to start from scratch, and had to start building up my skirt and modest top collection.
Thanks for sharing!! I love the idea of seeing other people's closets. It would be nice to see the closet of a plus size skirt wearer too if you know anyone who would share.
I'm a first-time visitor. You seem like such a sweetheart. Your gentle spirit & simple approach is refreshing. I come from a long line of skirt-wearers. In fact, I don't believe that anyone on my mother's side {my mom, her mom, & even further back} has worn anything but. I attended public school always {K-12} & have had many discussions on my only wearing skirts/dresses. I interviewed for a job when I was 17 at a donut shop. He was convinced that I'd need to wear pants to do the job efficiently ... go figure;) I adopted this motto then: If I can't do something decently in a skirt, then maybe I shouldn't be doing it. To this very day, I've conducted myself appropriately in a skirt & it hasn't limited me from doing anything that I've desired to do. I am very happy to see an increase in lady's opting to wear skirts & embracing femininity =)

I am so thankful that you are doing this series of post. I am now dresses/skirts only and it has been a process of about a year and half to change over. The Lord was pressing on my heart to make the change and when I spoke with my husband about it he surprised me by saying that he prefered me in skirts/dresses because it made me look more feminine. That was that and I started shopping Goodwill which is a great place to pick up skirts for cheap. There is nothing that I do that I can not do in a skirt (trust me I have tried to find something ;) I am just so thankful that my daughters when I spoke to them about it 19 & 12 were already beginning to see the change in my heart and desiring it as well so the change over of them that I thought would complain and run the other way .... they both were excited and now we are all dresses/skirts only and loving it :O) Thank you again for this series....PS: I just ordered a skirt from you I can't wait to recieve it :)
Blessings, Lisa
@ Lisa,
That is a wonderful testimony! Praise the Lord that your daughters were just fine with the change in their wardrobe.
I hope you like the skirt! We have quite a few orders right now, but it will get sewn and shipped as soon as possible!
Hi, new here-I also wear skirts all the time. I was brought up to only wear skirts, but went through a none Christian rebellious period where I wore trousers. Back to skirts, usually long and I love them. But sadly I am a very poor sewer so have to buy skirts and in Australia it is hard to find long skirts that are nice and not expensive. Adding to my wows, I need skirts to wear to work. I have bought a few from New Creations which make excellent modest skirts, but the postage isn't cheap. I do use EBay where I get most of my skirts. I am going to buy a sewing machine so hopefully I cam learn to sew some of my owns skirts.
Off to investigate more of your blog.
Thank you for sharing with us from your closet. This is a pleasant video with good information about modest dressing. I shop at Good Will and Savers for most of my skirts and tops. Skirts usually run about $3.99 and with my senior discount, it's a little less than that. You are an encouragement to so many of us. Keep up the good work!
I am four months pregnant. I've found sources for long maternity skirts (including your business!) but my problem is that I live in Northern Canada and my legs get awfully cold even in April. In the late spring and summer I have no trouble wearing skirts/dresses full time, but right now I find myself wearing pants and would prefer not to.
So my question is, what can I wear underneath to stay warm while pregnant? Tights always fall down on me. Even when I buy tall size, they are often not long enough. Before I got pregnant I wore capri length leggings and knee highs, and that worked well. Maybe I could find maternity leggings somewhere??? What works for you?
Amy,
I wear knee high cotton socks in the winter time while pregnant, or I end up wearing compression hose because of my varicose veins. :( It is hard to find a comfortable stocking while pregnant.
I wonder if you could get just leg warmers that are high enough to work? I haven't tried that, but it's a thought. They would just cover your legs.
I will write more about this in future posts. :-)
You did such a great job on this vlog! I'm not sure if you've done one in the past or not (this is the first one I've seen), but when opportunities arise, you should continue--you're a natural! And I would like to add...you're so beautiful!
P.S. My two ruffled skirts from you are my favorites in my closet!
I never thought of knee high socks. That would definitely help, and I look forward to seeing more in a post someday :o)
Hi i thought it was very intresting and well presented so thank you. but some comments throw it back to only skirt/dresses for women I live in a very cold and one of the most windy places on the planet I love wearing dresses and do any day I can but it is not modest here nor safe I wear two or three pair of tights or thermals under jeans waterproofs or woolen leggings over this I wear a garment that I call a dress they come to mid way above the knee to almosts the knee in these I look more feminine and am not in danger from the enviroment and to the above comment try sking and hunting/fencing in a dress you would be risking your life so love God and remember people's circumstances are different if I lived in southern us I'd own dozens of dresses (what a lovely dream) but God placed us here!!!! where even when it's hot its cold and when its cold it's freezing
I have enjoyed this blog, and would just like to answer one comment from anonymous: I can ski and hunt in a skirt and have done so(fencing, you seriously fence? wow) and I have to say, your dress over the jeans is exactly what I have allowed my middle daughter to wear. I gave her the guidelines of 1. covering her thigh(including the silhouette, which is why the jeans aren't enough) 2. keeping it modest, 3. keeping it feminine.
Please don't forget, that the Biblical principles are important, not what you call it, so "what you call a dress" sounds like a wonderful way to fulfill God's commands. This solution allows you to be modest and feminine, and still protected. My youngest daughter absolutely HATES jeans and refuses to wear them, but is fine with leggings. I too live in a cold climate (not as cold as yours I think, but still, the need for warm clothing is there) and we sometimes wear snowpants over our skirts. (Just don't wear a skirt that will wrinkle easily or you won't look very good when you come in for hot chocolate!) I very often think of eskimos and jungle dwellers when I think of this subject, and I have to remind myself that God gave us these principles, and He knew all of the places we could possibly live! Thank you for illustrating yet another way that we can be godly and also practical. (I'm posting this as anonymous only because I can't remember my google sign-in and I don't know what url I would put! lol I'll figure it out :)
I have to say this is of my favorite posts of yours. It was a lot of fun joining your She Wears a Skirt Link Up.
Blessings!
-Mary
