"She Wears Skirts" Modesty Series Begins!

I'm afraid I left my readers dangling after my recent blog post "Are you modest enough?". I promised that more was to come, and I've had several readers ask when I was going to finish it. Well, today I'm starting it back up again. However, I do want to tell you about something quite unexpected and exciting that happened while I let this topic rest!

I shared awhile back about attending a crisis pregnancy fundraiser where the Duggar family spoke. While I was waiting in line for the book signing, there was a woman behind me who I kept glancing at, as I knew she looked familiar. Come to find out we knew each other from a Christian Forum of which we are both members. Amy blogs at Raising Arrows blog, and I've really enjoyed all the wonderful information she has on her blog. I remember reading the story of how she lost her little baby girl, and bawling my eyes out late one night. Her strength is amazing, and I truly respect her.

Shortly after that meeting, I received an email from her asking if I was interested in sending her a skirt from The Modest Mom to try. She also asked me for tips and advice about dressing in skirts. We decided to collaborate together, and thus, the series "She Wears Skirts" was born. Amy and I will both be blogging on this series on our respective blogs, and I will be doing some guest posting on Amy's blog as well. The first post in the series "She Wears Skirts" is up on Amy's blog here.

We plan on going through a modest wardrobe piece by piece, and I will be sharing helpful ideas as to what I believe a modest outfit looks like and how to put it all together.

Also, we will be sharing about:

*daily life with skirts - and we mean every day

*quick and easy hair styles

*how to find your colors

*thoughts on shoes, and more!

*Plus, I'm thrilled that my husband agreed to do a guest post on modesty from his perspective!*

I hope you come along for the adventure! I even promise to give you a peek into The Modest Mom's closet, and I think you will find that wearing skirts is not that complicated, and can actually be fun!

It would be wonderful if you could also share resources on where to buy and how to sew your own, including good fabric choices and patterns. And maybe even a tutorial or two on how to cut out patterns and sew the skirts!

This sounds great! I started wearing skirts/dresses only in Sept. 2010. I love it and honestly like the fit alot better than a pair of jeans or pants! Can't wait to read the blog posts.

You did leave me hanging! I found your last post SO intriguing, and I'm looking forward to more on this topic. I don't dress in a particular "modest" style, as you would define it - but I just find this all so interesting. Thanks for sharing!!

Thank you for doing this. I wear skirts all the time (everyday) and have uncut hair out of conviction. Its so nice to have someone who is willing to talk about it and blog about it. I am so excited to read it. I get so many questions on how do I wear skirts all the time, and have long hair. Thanks!

I'm looking forward to reading this series. I've worn "dresses only" since I was 12. I love dressing like a lady, and I love it when I see others wearing dresses also and embracing their God-given femininity.

May the Lord bless you with grace and wisdom as you start this series.

I'm so excited. Thanks for doing this series! I'm finding it hard to find modest maternity skirts/dresses/ etc. Are you going to include maternity clothing in your series?

@Gabe, yes we will be including a section on maternity clothes. Have you looked at the maternity skirts we sell at The Modest Mom?

I started wearing skirts only after my baby was born last fall - more because they fit then anything. Since then I've discovered that I fell so much more feminine and I think it actually positively affects my attitude about role as a woman. And they are so much more comfy...
Recently I began searching the Scripture about this, and I'll just say I'm glad I made the switch.

I am very excited for this series. I have been endeavoring to dress modestly and femininely for about two years now. It has been a wonderful, but difficult journey. I have struggled quite a bit with my attitude, but am really delighted that the Lord has been laying this subject on my heart. I'm looking forward to your future posts.

P.S. I could be wrong, but after seeing your picture on your blog, I think that I stood next to you at the fund raiser for the Pregnancy Care Center. If that was you standing by the back doors with your little one.

@Jeni,

We probably did stand next to each other! I was at the back door with my oldest son. :-)

I have so many, many friends who I think are just really clueless of what they are doing to our fellow brothers. It breaks my heart, as I want to always say...do you know what that does to guys? I admit I am a coward and say nothing, I pray though my actions of modesty will speak louder than words alone would.

Hello! I just popped over from the Raising Homemakers linky and I do love this post! I just started wearing skirts regularly this year! Of course I am still adding to my modest collection, but have bought material to make some new skirts and dresses soon. Thank you for the encouraging post!

I am so excited about this series you're doing! After my 3rd child was born I wore a lot of skirts because that's all that fit, and in the process I felt the Lord nudging me to do more research on the topic of modesty and dress. I love how much more feminine and gentle I feel wearing skirts, but I there were some issues I had that it looks like you'll address! Thank you and I can't wait for more! You know what would be fun? Having a Link-up for women to post a look inside their modest wardrobe!

Just posting to say, I really enjoyed reading through this series (and sharing the link with some friends over on FB). Modesty and home making are both topics that are of interest to me, so finding more blogs to poke around at is always fun. Thanks for sharing.
