Review & Giveaway: Princess Modest Swimsuit

I jumped on the chance to review a modest swimsuit a few weeks back. I have been wearing a high neck and back swimsuit, along with a pair of shorts for the last few years. My husband was happy for me to find something that I could wear in mixed company that he was okay with. He took a look at the swimsuit and told me he didn’t think I could find a swimsuit anymore modest than this one.

The Princess Modest Swimwear company was started in Israel by a mother of six and a midwife by profession. She herself longed to enjoy the beach and pool with her family, without being bogged down by soggy clothes or an overly revealing bathing suit. Galia has spent countless hours researching swimsuit fashion and fabrics, and surveying what women of different cultures, religions and ages really want.

How the suits are made:

Princess Modest Swimwear has created a three piece suit with your comfort in mind. The top part is a body suit with snaps at the crotch that keep you covered even when you jump in the water and swim. This feature also makes the suit easy to put on and take off. The sleeves all cover the elbows, but a long sleeved option (to the wrist) is available. A tunic top that snaps at the shoulders can be worn for extra comfort or modesty. All suits can be worn with or without the tunic top. It can be worn loose or tucked into the elastic waistband on the skirt.

The skirt is attached to tights which cover the knees, (with a long tights option – to the ankles). The skirt features snaps between the legs that can be closed shut when you enter the water to prevent it from ballooning up and floating when you swim. The skirts have an elastic waistband with a drawstring that can be tightened to fit.

The body suit and tights are made out of Lycra. The tunic top and skirt are made out of microfiber. All of our fabrics stay lightweight even when wet, and dry quickly.

I asked for the short swimsuit in the black/lilac color. I was very impressed with the fabrics themselves. They are high quality and should last very well. We have had very hot days here in the Midwest. Both days I wore this swimsuit our temperatures were in the high 90’s with humidity. I did find the body suit and tights to be pretty hot for just standing around watching the children play in the water. I needed to get in myself! However, I’m not used to having such a modest suit and of course since it covers more of your body with Lycra it won’t be as cool as a revealing bathing suit. Once wet, you should be fine. :-)

I have worn the swimsuit twice now. Once to a spray ground with the girls, and for a morning at a swimming pool. Both times I wore the outer tunic top with it. I found that the tunic top and the skirt do indeed dry quickly.

When I went swimming I did close the skirt with snaps as advised to keep the skirt from ballooning up. This did work well until I was trying to swim laps. The snaps wouldn’t stay closed well during laps. If you are a very active swimmer I would advise to forget the snaps and enjoy yourself. Even with the tunic top and skirt it didn’t drag me down as much as I expected while swimming laps. For leisurely times in the pool or elsewhere the snaps will work and there is plenty of room for movement left. While swimming, the body suit under the tunic didn't gape at all. That's a plus!
