Review and Giveaway: Sense and Sensibility Girl's Pattern

If you are a seamstress, Sense and Sensibility Pattern company is a fun website to spend time at! I love seeing all the different pictures of the beautifully created dresses. Jennie Chancey began the company in 1996, and it quickly grew into an online business where she sells her patterns she has designed.

Sense and Sensibility patterns have a variety of patterns for six different time periods. You can go to the website and dream up all sorts of dresses to make out of each pattern. The pictures are beautiful on the site, and it will get you in the mood to sew! I like that all her patterns are modest and feminine.

I was sent the latest pattern that Jennie Chancey has come out with, the Girl's 1780's Portrait Dress Pattern. It is so sweet! The pattern was inspired after beautiful portraits from the time period.

I wanted to sew both of my girls matching dresses, but only got my 2 year old girl's dress done for Christmas. I don't think my 12 month old will mind. :-) I have been trying to get a picture of her in it for a while, but I can't seem to get it taken!

The pattern was not that difficult to sew. I did have to rip out on part of the bodice, as it was a little confusing as to which direction it should go. But once I studied it out a little bit more I was able to figure it out. I wouldn't rate this pattern for a beginner, I would get a simple skirt and jumper learned, and then tackle this pattern next. The only other problem I have is that it gapes a little in the front when she bends over, so I'm just going to have her wear an undershirt. Next time I will make the view with the elastic, which will solve the gaping neckline. I think that it is the style of the time period, and not the pattern itself that causes the gaping.

Jennie Chancey has also designed the woman's pattern to match the girls! It looks so pretty. Currently the woman's pattern is only available through Vision Forum.

Win It!

Sense and Sensibility has offered to giveaway 2 e-patterns of the girls pattern! To enter, go to the website and tell me what your favorite pattern is besides the 1780's one.
